Hello All, Happy Friday! I thought maybe we could take a quick second out of our busy days to think about how lucky we are to have our health. I’ve used that a few times in my “WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY” section and I’m sure I’ll use it again but we should appreciate our health everyday. We can often get so caught up in the little bubble of our life and start complaining about things like the weather or a stressful day when thousands of people out there are struggling with things like cancer and losing a loved one. We should be grateful for every second we have on this beautiful planet!
I was recently contacted by the husband of a cancer surviver who suffered from a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. Heather was only 36 and had just given birth to their daughter when she was diagnosed and given only 15 months to live. After a life-saving surgery which included the removal of her left lung, she is now cancer-free 8 years later. Every year on the anniversary of the surgery they celebrate “Lung Leavin’ Day” where they gather around a fire in their backyard with family & friends, write their biggest fears on a plate and then smash them into the fire. They celebrate for those who are no longer with them, for those who continue to fight, for those who are currently going through a tough time in their life, and most importantly they celebrate life! Now that is something that I can definitely jump on board with!
Although Lung Leavin’ Day has passed (on February 2nd), I hope you’ll take a minute to visit their website for three reasons. #1-you can read more about her story and the cause #2-Because its one of the most beautifully designed websites I’ve ever seen and it tells the story in such a unique way (just keep scrolling down), and #3-because you can take part in smashing your own plate of fears.
If you have a blog, or would like to share on social media, they are looking to spread the word so please share with your friends & family! Cameron & Heather, thank you for sharing your story with us, the world is a better place with you in it. 🙂
Happy Friday everyone! Get out there and live up that weekend!!
